The 18th session of the national parliament is going to begin Monday afternoon and the main opposition BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) is all set to join the session.
The parliamentary members of BNP are to hold a meeting at the parliament at 04:00pm and they will be attending the session thereafter.
The opposition MPs have been absent at the parliament for a period of 83 consecutive working days. That’s why they are bound to attend the parliament within the first seven working days of the upcoming session.
Otherwise, according to constitutional mandates, they will be losing their candidacies except Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad.
The parliament granted Kaikobad leave for illness.
The newly-elected speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury is going to preside at the session and the finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith is expected to present the final budget of the ruling government.
Sources say BNP MPs will chiefly focus on political standoff and polls-time administration during the session. They, however, will refrain from putting forward any framework for election-time government.
