Sayedee to be in prison till death

The Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Muzammel Hossain reduced war crimes convict Delwar Hossain Sayedee’s death sentence to ‘imprisonment till death’.

Chief Justice Hossain said the prominent Jamaat leader would have to remain imprisoned “for the rest of his natural life”.

Sayedee had been given the death penalty for two counts of crimes against humanity on Feb 28, 2013 by the war crimes tribunal.

The Supreme Court (SC) has awarded imprisonment unto death to Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee in war crimes cases.

A bench comprising five-member justices led by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain pronounced the verdict on an appeal petition of Delawar Hossain Sayedee against his death sentence by the International Crimes Tribunal-1.

The other four justices were- Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, Justice Md. Abdul Wahhab Miah, Justice Hasan Foez Siddique and Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury.

The International Crimes Tribunal-1 on February 28 last year gave death penalty to Delwar Hossain Sayedee in two charges.
