Netherlands to invest in Bangladesh’s dev projects

The Dutch prime minister expressed optimism that Bangladesh is going to be one of the next 11 members in terms of achieving economic prosperity

Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte has assured his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina of investing in more development projects of the country, including the construction of a deep seaport at Sonadia.

Mark Rutte assured Hasina about the investment during a meeting on the sidelines of the ASEM Summit at the Milan Congress in Italy on Thursday evening, reports UNB.

Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque briefed the reporters after the meeting.

The Dutch prime minister expressed optimism that Bangladesh is going to be one of the next 11 members in terms of achieving economic prosperity.

Rutte said his country wants to follow innovative and greener way of addressing floods without constructing embankments.

In reply, Sheikh Hasina said the government has been implementing pro-people and job-and education-oriented development programmes, and it has created a revolution in the use of mobile phones and ICTs.

About regional cooperation, Hasina mentioned such cooperation is a top priority of her government and said regional connectivity with neighbouring countries can play a significant role in development.

She also mentioned her government’s zero tolerance policy against terrorism, and said the problems could be solved by creating awareness through discussions with community-based Imams and creating opportunities for job and education for them.
