Int’l Women’s Day being observed in Bangladesh

International Women’s Day is being observed in the country as elsewhere across the world on Sunday, representing an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women and calling for greater equality.

The theme of the day this year is ‘Empowering Women- Empowering Humanity:Picture It!’

Different organisations have chalked out various programmes to mark the day.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on this occasion.

Observing that the contributions of women to family, society and the state are huge, the President underscored the need for ensuring their rights and empowerment alongside providing them with due honour.

He also urged all to work together to protect the rights of women, ensure their empowerment and equal opportunities.

In her message, the Prime Minister called upon all to make a promise to create a world based on equality in order to ensure women’s human rights, logical rights, empowerment and dignity.
