Headmaster of a government primary school who is also an activist of ruling Awami League (AL) was caught red handed while setting on fire to the school where he teaches.

The person was identified as Abdul Mannan, Headmaster of Sujabad Government Primary school under Shahjahanpur Upazila, Bogra. He tried to use school staff Babul Hossain in setting on fire to school furniture on Tuesday morning to shift the blame on to Jamaat-Shibir. When the incident took place neither any teacher, nor any student was there as it occurred before anyone reached there. Having done the mischief he raised hue and cry. Having heard his voice local people gathered at the school and held Babul Hossain, who narrated to them the misdeed of the Head Master. The agitated local people beat up both the head master Abdul Mannan and Babul Hossain. Finding no way to escape people’s wrath the Head Master said he himself had set the school on fire to put the blame on Jamaat-Shibir. At one stage he tried to escape from the school. But the angry people kept him confined in the school.

When the matter reached the knowledge of the members of law enforcing agencies they rushed to the spot and rescued Mannan from the hands of the agitated people.

Major Sufi Kamruddin together with members of joint force rushed to the place of occurrence and rescued Mannan. Later, he was arrested in the face of demand from the local people. A tense situation was prevailing in the area.
Officer in Charge of Shahjahanpur thana told the media that headmaster was detained on charge of setting on fire Sujabad primary school. Necessary action is being taken against him, he added. The members of joint force brought the situation under control having assured the angry people that necessary legal action would be taken against him.


Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Shahjahanpur Abdur Rahman told the media that he had visited the place of occurrence. The situation was becoming normal. Babul Hossain, a staff of the school said that Abdul Mannan is a resident of Bogra Sadar Colony area and a member of Bogra Municipal Awami League. He reached the school quite early in the morning on Tuesday and started setting on fire to school furniture.
