3 Chhatra League men arrested with sharp weapons after college teacher abduction


Three Chhatra League men were arrested on Saturday afternoon after they kidnapped a college teacher and demanded a ransom of 50 thousand taka. The trio was arrested at about 4 pm on Saturday from a student mess in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar behind Bogra Government Azizul Haque College in Bogra.

The name of the college teacher is Jamrul Islam (45). He is the Dean of Political Science division of Kahalu Model Women Degree College in Bogra.

It was known that Jamrul had departed from his house at 9 am Saturday morning from Jamilnagar area to go to his college. Later, a friend received a call from Jamrul asking him to send over 50,000 taka via bKash quickly. After receiving several calls to this end, Jamrul’s friend became suspicious and quickly notified his family of the situation. After his mobile phone was found dead after 11 am in the morning, family members quickly informed the law enforcers who then went on an operation to recover Jamrul. The law enforcers recovered Jamrul after a raid at 4 pm at a student mess in a building named ‘Poresh Bhaban’ in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar behind Bogra Government Azizul Haque College in the city.

At this time the police arrested Minhajul Islam (25), Momin Hossain Rubel (24) and Atiar Rahman Atik (25) from the premises. After further investigation and search, police found three sharp large cleavers. After bringing the arrested to the police station, the trio claimed that they were members of Bogra Government Azizul Haque College unit Chhatra League.

Although Chhatra League leaders of the said institution denied that the arrested were Chhatra League members, a trusted source informed that the trio was part of Bogra Government Azizul Haque College unit rebel committee Chhatra League’s general secretary Hannan’s group.

Police informed that investigation was ongoing and that a case was being prepared against the arrested in this regard.
