Presiding officer among 10 injured in clash at polling centre

Ten people including a presiding officer have been injured in a clash between two groups of Awami League-backed councillor candidates at Kaful High School polling centre.

Presiding officer Mazharul Islam said: “The supporters of AL-backed councillor candidate Mahmuda Begum and rebel candidate Motiur Rahman were locked in a clash around 11am Tuesday. They also vandalised some ballot boxes and police guns.”

“I got hurt in my eye during the clash. Two journalists, policemen, and some voters also received injuries.”

Meanwhile, police detained Rana from the spot in this connection, added the offcial.

He said: “Voting at the centre was suspended soon after the clash. It will resume around 2pm.”

However, our reporter Abid Azad reported from the spot that polling did not resume at the centre as of 3pm.
