War Crime Trial against Jamaat leader Kamaruzzman: Appeal hearing on September 2

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has fixed the next appeal hearing date on September 2 in the war crime trial against Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Mohammad Kamaruzzaman.   In response to a time plea filed by defence lawyers Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha has passed the order on Wednesday afternoon. The hearing will start from September 2 as Supreme Court will be on vacation from July 25 to August 30.   Out of seven charges against the Jamaat leader, International Crimes Tribunal-2 on May 9, 2013, awarded death penalty to him on two charges, lifetime detention on two and 10 years jail in torturing a teacher during the liberation war.   On June 6, Kamaruzzaman’s defence appealed before the apex court challenging the tribunal verdict against him.
