Condemning the killing of six people, including a panel mayor, after abduction in Narayanganj, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Wednesday night alleged that the current illegal regime has turned the entire country into a mass-grave.
“This illegitimate government resorted to violent path of killing, forced disappearance and secret killing to escape public wraths,” Khaleda said in a statement.
Earlier in the day, the bodies of six people, including that of abducted panel mayor Nazrul Islam, were recovered from the Shitalakhya and Dhaleshwari Rivers on Wednesday afternoon, three days after their abductions.
Port thana police recovered the floating body of Nazrul Islam, with his hands and legs tied up, around 3pm from the Shitalakhya River near Kolagachhia Shnatinagar area.
Voicing her deep concern over the growing incidents of extra judicial killing, Khaleda said the government has no way to avoid the responsibility for the regular killing, abduction and forced disappearance. “Now people have no security as the law and order situation has sharply deteriorated.”
Accusing the government of having failed to ensure public security, the former prime minister said state-sponsored terrorism is being carried out in the country.
In a note of warning to the government, she said it will have to pay a heavy price if it fails to stop abduction, forced disappearance and secret killing, and urged the BNP leaders and activists to stand beside people for ensuring the security of their lives and property.
Khaleda also urged the people from all walks of life to put up a strong resistance against the current ‘killer, corrupt, plunderer, repressive and fascist regime’.
