A group of men acting as the members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police abducted a garments official in broad daylight yesterday in Gazipur.
They also snatched about Tk150,000, mobile phones and other possessions before abandoning him in a jungle.
The victim was identified as Manowar Hossain, 34, quality in-charge of Anwara Knitwear of Gazipur’s Maona area.
According to Mukul Hossain, brother of the victim, Manowar Hossain was returning home after withdrawing Tk144,000 from Maona branch of Islami Bank at around 11am.
When his bus reached Hotapara area of Joydebpur, a micro-bus blocked its way and some armed plain-clothed men got on the bus. They handcuffed Manowar and dragged him into the micro-bus.
Manowar was beaten up inside the vehicle before the men took all his money and belonging. He was left in a jungle near the Hi-tech Park area in Kaliakoir.
Manowar was rescued by the locals who eventually informed his brother Mukul Hossain.
Rafiqul Islam, officer in-charge of Kaliakoir police station said they could not process any case since the incident happened under the Joydebpur police jurisdiction.
When Officer in-Charge of Joydebpur police station Khandkar Rezaul Hasan Reza was contacted, he said they were not aware of such incident.
