Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Sunday claimed that ruling Awami League lawmaker’s son Bakhtiar Alam Rony had confessed that he shot two men who succumbed to the injuries. DMP joint commissioner Monirul Islam at a briefing said that Bakhtiar made the confession during interrogation by police in custody, but refused to make the confessional statement before a judicial magistrate pretending to be sick on Saturday, when he was sent to jail. Monirul said that the investigator might seek Bakhtiar to be remanded again in police custody for interrogation. He said that the police would investigate the case professionally without considering the status and influence of the accused. Bakhtiar, son of Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan, was sent to jail on Saturday on charge of shooting two men to death at the capital’s New Eskaton on early April 14. Monirul said, ‘Bakhtiar’s driver confessed that Bakhtiar shot the two men. ‘Police is not trying to save him [Bakhtiar], rather, police arrested him uncovering the incident although the first information named none,’ he said. The DMP official said that police seized the arms which bullets penetrated the two men’s body.
