The Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson, Khaleda Zia, came under attack by ruling Awami League men once again while she was campaigning for her party-backed Dhaka north city mayoral candidate Tabith Awal near Banglamotor intersection on Wednesday.
A group of ruling Awami League activists attacked on Khaleda’s vehicle and some others of the motorcade with stones while she was campaigning at around 5:20pm, witnesses said.
The AL activists also beat up Khaleda’s security adviser Abdul Qayum,also former inspector general of police, and Khaleda’s personal security force member Samiul and vandalised four to five cars of the motorcade, said the witnesses.
Khaleda’s car was also hit by a bullet, said Khaleda’s press wing official Shamsuddin Didar.
The police later rescued the security personnel and rushed him to a city hospital, the witnesses said.
The attackers were chanting slogans in favour of Awami League saying ‘Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu,’ the witnesses said.
Earlier on Monday, AL men attacked Khaleda during her electioneering at Karwanbazar for Tabith. Six people were injured and vehicles in the motorcade were damaged in the attack.
She was also came under attack by ruling party men on Tuesday when she was campaigning for BNP-backed Dhaka south city mayoral candidate MIrza Abbas at near Fakirapul kitchen market.
