President of Jatio Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), A S M Abdur Rob, while addressing the Prime Minister in a recent meeting, said, “That day is not very far when people of Bengal will expel you. It is up to you to decide whether you will go peacefully or you will go for good. Don’t turn into Hitler or Mussolini. Take your farewell as a democratic leader.” He was speaking in a seminar at Press club auditorium titled “Shwadhinota Chetona o Manobadhikar (Essence of Independence & Human Rights) arranged by Nagorik Oikya on the occasion of 26th March, the Independence Day of Bangladesh.
“Release Mahmudur Rahman Manna as soon as possible. Act politically with the political personalities. Don’t run terrorism under the cover of politics. You cannot survive for long in this way,” he appealed to the government. He also added, “Awami League can never be a democratic party just like a Razakar cannot be a freedom fighter. This is why; to protect democracy in Bangladesh, Awami League has to be ousted as well.”
The President of JSD further said, “It is the responsibility of the government to capture those miscreants who have been killing people with Molotov cocktails. Why can’t they capture those criminals? Because the government itself has been doing these to suppress the movement of the opposition. We hate petrol bombs but we also hate mass murdering in the name of ‘crossfire.’”
Rob added that the government didn’t want any dialogue as they wanted to stay in power for ever. In regard to Manna’s arrest he said, “The main reason for arresting Manna is that he stood for democratic aspirations of the people of this country. He was neither a thief nor was he a dacoit. You (the government) have evidence of his activities but why are you spreading so many lies against him?” Among other speakers in the seminar were, Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury, founder of Gonoshasthaya Kendra, General Secretary of JSD Abdul Malek Ratan, member of Nagorik Oikya Kazi Islam Uddin and Sukomol Barua, a teacher of Dhaka University.
