Swechchhasebak League leader chopped to death in Barisal

A local leader of Awami Swechchhasebak League, a front organisation of ruling Awami League, was hacked to death in Mehendiganj of Barisal on Friday morning.
The victim Idris Majhi, 31, was a joint secretary of Char Ekkoria union unit of Swechchhasebak League, said Ramkrishna Devnath, convener of the upazila SL unit.
Police and family sources said Idris and his cousin Rashid Hawladar were at loggerheads over a piece of land for long.
Iqbal Hawladar, son of Rashid, went to the house of Idris at Laskarpur around 5:30am and entered into his room on excuse of charging mobile phone set.
Then Iqbal chopped Idris indiscriminately and fled the scene.
Idris was rushed to upazila health complex where the duty doctor declared him dead.
Police sent the body to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Ujjwal Kumar Dey, Mehendiganj police officer-in-charge, said they were trying to nab the perpetrator.
Preparation for lodging a case was underway.
