BCL men held while extorting trader at Lakshmipur

Three local leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of ruling Awami League, were arrested while extorting a businessman at Ramganj in Lakshmipur on Thursday morning.
The detained were identified as Md Sajal, 22, organising secretary of BCL Ramganj Government College unit, and his associates Md Faruq, 21 and Md Sajib, 24.
Officer-in-charge of Ramganj police station, Md Lokman Hossain, said acting on a tip off they held three leaders while they were extorting local businessman Abul Khaer around 10:00am at a tea stall of Ramnagar village.
Abul Khaer said the local BCL leaders had been threatening him for long time, demanding an amount Tk 20,000.
Finally he agreed to give them Tk 10,000 on Thursday morning at a local tea stall.
OC Lokman said on information that some Chhatra League men were extorting there, police rushed the spot and arrested them.
A case was filed with Ramganj police station over the matter, he said.
