Awami League never be indigenous favoring government: Shantu Larma

Jotirindra Bodhi Prio Larma alias Shantu Larma, President of Adhibashi Forum also the Chairman of the Parbottya Chottogram Aancholik Parishad has said, ‘ruling Awami League (AL) chairperson and her government are not indigenous favor.’


Addressing as president in a discussion program organized on the occasion of ‘Indigenous Day’ at capital’s Engineers’ Institution auditorium on Saturday Larma told this.


Asking Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Larma said, “why not you and your government implement the ‘Peace Treaty’ that was signed 16 years ago? The peoples in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) are being deceived by the government rather get any facility according to the peace treaty.”


The indigenous leader said ‘due to corruption, arrogant nationalism and communal thought of each government during the last 42 years the indigenous people remain deprived from their rights.’


Chief Guest of the program also President of Workers Party, Rashed Khan Menon claimed PM has been praised for the treaty but the treaty but remained unimplemented.


Addressing as special guest of the program, Chairman of the ‘Human Rights Commission’ Mizanoor Rahman said, “The NHRC is playing the role as Royal Bengal Tiger not as tamed cat.”


Chakma Circle Chief Debashish Roy urged to implement treaty and ensure the facilities for the both CHT and plain land indigenous peoples.


Conducted by Adibashi Forum general secretary Sanjeeb Drong UNDP Country Representative Neel Walker and Canadian High Commissioner Hither Cur den also addressed the program.


Due to the Eid-Ul-Fitr vacation, this year August 9, the Indigenous Day, has been observed earlier.
