Police on Tuesday night took Nagarik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna to Dhaka Medical College Hospital after he fell sick in custody.
Manna arrived in the hospital around 10:45pm from the office of detective branch of police at Minto Road. New Age correspondent at the hospital reported that he was undergoing check up at the cardiology department.
Addition deputy commissioner of detective branch Mahfuzul Islam claimed that Manna was taken to hospital for a routine check-up and he would be taken back to the detective branch. ‘As he complained of feeling uneasy in custody, we did not take any risk and sent him to the hospital,’ he said.
A Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s court on March 7 sent him into a 10-day remand in a sedition case.
Manna was reportedly picked up by detective branch from Baridhara early February 24. The Rapid Action Battalion on February 25 night claimed they had arrested him from Dhanmondi.
