A young vegetable vender died of bullet wounds while he was caught amidst a gunfight between Shramik League and Chattra League, two factions of the ruling party Awami League. A bloody encounter broke out because of a trivial matter between the two groups and youth named Niju, who was 16 years old, died in the ensuing gunfight.
And at least 20 more was injured. Out of the injured, five were in critical condition and was admitted to Sylhet A.M.G. Osmani Medical College. The incident took place on Friday night around 11:00 o’clock at South Beanibazar, Sylhet. A critical situation is prevailing at the town after the incident and surveillance has been increased around the town and nearby.
Police recovered the dead body. No complaint has yet been lodged. Witnesses informed that at night there was severe argument between the two groups because of trifling matter. But as the situation heightened and involved ex Chattra League leader Jamal Hossain and his business organization, police arrived at the location of the incident. Meanwhile the local Chattra League group of Jamal Hossain and Shramik League group was in a combat position and started the encounter. The youth named Niju died on being struck by bullets in between the fight. He was a vegetable retailer.
Deceased Niju was the son of Subol Mia from Cosba village. Bimol, Ripon, Kalam, Faisal, and Nurul was injured and admitted to Shylhet A.M.G. Osmani Medical College. The injured are members of Shramik League and Chattra League. O.C. Juber Ahmed confirmed the news and said that situation is under control now.
