BNP quits Ctg polls, Manjur retires

Chittagong unit of the BNP has boycotted the city corporation election bringing allegations of irregularities and vote rigging.

BNP Chittagong city unit president Amir Khashru Mahmud Chowdhury made the announcement at a press conference on Tuesday morning.

BNP-backed mayoral aspirant M Manjur Alam also declared he would retire from politics.

Khashru alleged that their agents were barred from entering many polling centres.

Terming the ongoing city polls farcical, BNP has also rejected the polls in the Dhaka North and South City Corporations.

Voting at three polling stations under Suritola Model Primary School in Jatrabari has been suspended following vandalism at the centre around 9:30am.

Journalists have allegedly been barred by police personnel from entering several polling stations in Dhaka.
