Youth dies in police custody

Mystery shrouded about a death of a youth who died in police custody in Shahjahanpur police station in the capital early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Saiful Ahamed, 30, resident of 295/3, Gulbagh of Khilgaon.
Family alleged that Mithu was killed in police torture but police denied. There was no case was filed against Mithu in any police station.
Alamgir, cousin of Mithu said, police held Saiful along with two others and took them to the police station at around 11.00pm while they were taking tea at a stall in TT-para area.
He alleged that Mithu was beaten in the police custody mercilessly, leaving him critically injured. Later police took Mithu to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctor pronounced him dead.
He might have been died before reaching to DMCH, Alamgir suspected.
Shahjahanpur Thana officer-in-charge Ziauzzaman said, ‘They were drugs addict. We got admitted Mithu to DMCH as he said that he was suffering heart ache.’
Mithu, an accounting graduate from Tejgaon College, was looking for a work after completing study. His village home is in Charshindhur of Palashnagar in Narsingdi. He was residing with his elder brother Titu in Gulbagh area.
Postmortem of the body was undergoing at DMCH.
