A metro session judge’s court in Dhaka on Sunday issued warrants of arrest for 28 Bangladesh Nationalist Party leaders and activists in a case filed under Explosives Substance Act with Mirpur police station.
The judge of the court, Kamrul Islam Molla, passed the order as most of the accused were not present before the court as scheduled.
The court set July 8 for the next hearing.
The names of the accused facing arrest warrants included BNP standing committee member Rafiqul Islam Mia, joint secretary general Amanullah Aman, party chairpeson’s press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan, Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel and Saiful Alam Nirab.
Mirpur police sub-inspector Khandaker Razib submitted a charge sheet against 42 BNP men to a metropolitan magistrate court on March 24.
Mirpur police had filed the case on January 28 during the countrywide blockade enforced by BNP-led alliance.
Meanwhile, the same court issued warrants of arrest for 18 BNP men including Saiful Alam Nirab in another case filed under Explosives Substance Act with Mirpur police station.
