A private university student was killed as police opened fire on the activists of 18-party alliance at Malibagh Bazar area in the city on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased, identified as Mansur Ahmed, 25, was a student of Law at a private university of Dhaka’s Uttara area, City University. He was ward president for Shibir.
Witnesses said some activists of 18-party alliance brought out a procession in Malibagh Bazar area to join the ‘March for Democracy’ programme about 11:30am.
Police fired teargas shells and rubber bullets to foil the procession, triggering a clash that left Mansur injured with bullet.
Critically injured Mansur was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead at around 12:15pm, hospital sources said.
