Two assaulted journalists get bail from High Court

High Court (HC) on Tuesday granted three months’ anticipatory bail to two journalists of private television channel Independent TV in a case filed by ruling Awami League lawmaker Golam Maula Rony.

After hearing on the bail petition, the HC bench comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Md Jahangir Hossain granted the bail to Imtiaz and Mohsin.

The Awami League lawmaker filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station against Independent TV reporter Imtiaz Momin and cameraperson Mohsin Mukul accusing them of attacking Rony, threatening him with death and trying to extort money from him.

Rony beat up Momin and Mhsin, who belong to a team that produces the crime investigation show ‘Talash’ for the Independent TV channel, at his Topkhana Road office in the capital on Saturday.

In this connection, a case was field with Shahbagh police station against 20 people mentioning the name of lawmaker Golam Mawla Roni as prime suspect, on charge of attempt to murder two journalists.

Roni also filed a counter case against Salman F Rahman, owner of the Independent Television, and reporter Imtiaz Momin and cameraperson Mohsin Mukul of the television.

Rony also received ad-interim bail on Sunday after surrendering before a Dhaka court.
