*The following is a translation of an article which appeared on the Al-Ihsan on April 1, 2013, detailing a meeting of Home Ministry officials with selected Islamist parties. The organization behind the Al-Ihsan is the Anjuman-e-Bayyinaat, which is an ally organization of the pro-government Ulama League. Al-Ihsan is led by editor Allama Mohammad Mahbub Alam Arif Shaheb, and is part of Bayyinat Group, also containing the monthly Al-Bayyinah, owned by Rajarbag Pir Dillur Rahman. As a noteworthy side note, the Al-Ihsan hosts eccentric articles, such as the claim that the natural disasters in the Western world is a result of supplications by the Rajarbag Pir.
A list of 84 atheist bloggers and facebook users writing extremely inflammatory and vile comments against Islam and the Prophet Saiyyidul Mursalin, Imamul Mursalin, Khatamun Nabiyyin, Nuur-e-Mujassam, Habibullah Hujur pak Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam on 9 blogs has been handed to the Home Ministry. The list was handed over to a 9 member committee formed by the Home Ministry in a meeting attended by the Islamic scholars from all over the country. Mainuddin Khandaker, the president of the committee and the additional secretary of the Home ministry, while speaking with journalists, informed that an email account had been opened by the ministry to receive information regarding such matters.
Mainuddin said that the meeting with the Islamic scholars had been arranged in order to gather information from them regarding specific evidence and information on vile comments against Islam and the Prophet Saiyyidul Mursalin, Imamul Mursalin, Khatamun Nabiyyin, Nuur-e-Mujassam, Habibullah Hujur pak Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam. In the meantime, he iterated that a good amount of evidence had been submitted to the committee. The material would be quickly sent to the law enforcement agencies for further investigation. He reiterated that anyone would be able to send evidence to the newly opened email address.
At this time, Allama Mohammad Mahbub Alam Arif Shaheb, the editor of the monthly Al-Bayyinaat and daily Al-Ihsan newspaper, and the Central Convener of Anjumaan-al-Bayyinaat said that the atheist bloggers had been blaspheming against Islam for a long time. But the role of the government in tackling this issue was next to nil.
He said, making extremely vile comments against Islam and the Prophet Saiyyidul Mursalin, Imamul Mursalin, Khatamun Nabiyyin, Nuur-e-Mujassam, Habibullah Hujur pak Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) in the name of free speech is a sign of of being agnostic. It is necessary to control them. Bangladeshis cannot comment on the blog of any Indians. However, Indian Hindus and unbelievers are able to comment in Bangladeshi blogs.
He further accused the BTRC for not doing its duty properly. For that, he said that it is necessary to create a monitoring cell and take action against such people. He also advised the government to file a case in this issue.
