On 29th October, 2014, police fired upon a protest procession by Bangladesh Jamaat–e-Islami and Bangladesh Islami Chatra Shibir activists at Chapai Nawabganj which was brought out at about 3 pm local time in protest of the death penalty handed down by the Bangladesh based International War Crimes Tribunal against Ameer-e-Jamaat Maulana Motiur Rahman Nizami. The indiscriminate firing led to several critical injuries among the protesters from gunshot wounds.
Tohurul Islam (20), among the critically injured at the procession, passed away on the 13th of November, 2014 after 15 days in intensive care. He, along with some of the other critically injured, was initially sent for treatment at Shivganj Health Complex for gunshot wounds, one puncturing his lungs, and two wounds puncturing his stomach, where doctors quickly referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment. On quick deterioration of his health, he was brought to a hospital in Dhaka, where he breathed his last at 8:10 am in ICU, where he had been admitted for the last 15 days.
Tohurul Islam was a first year student of Fazil (Masters) at Shivganj Fazil Madrassah and hailed from Hangami village of Shivganj upazila. He is the son of Ayesh Uddin, a farmer, and the seventh child among 9 siblings.
Tohurul was an associate of Bangladesh Islami Chatra Shibir, and the Literary Affairs Secretary of Monakasha Union Shibir Unit in Chapai Nawabganj.
The inhumanity in the story of another tragedy
The present government establishment and its huge media and propaganda arsenal would like you to believe that Tohurul was just a simple political pawn, insignificant of worthiness due to the fact that he was demonstrating for a political force that the establishment and its supporter base believes should be wiped out anyway. The propaganda machine has en masse tried to churn out a version of altered reality, based on the concept that people like Tohurul are unworthy of rights and liberties simply based on their association with the other side.
It was stated earlier that Tohurul had been among a handful admitted to Shivganj Health Complex on that day for medical care, from where doctors referred him to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospita for better treatment.
Next day, on the 30th of October 2014, according to media reports, three health officials, including a woman physician, of Shibganj upazila health complex in Chapainawabganj were picked up by the police on charge of giving medical treatment to wounded activists of the Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir on Wednesday night.
According to a New Age report, “Shibganj upazila health officer Abdur Rahman, the health complex medical officer Afiya Ferdous and health assistant Shariful Islam were picked up from the hospital and their residence.
Shortly after the pronouncement of the verdict by the International Crimes Tribunal 1 sentencing Jamaat chief Motiur Rahman Nizami to death, at least 20 people, including two police officials, were injured in a clash between the law enforcers and the Jamaat and Shibir men when they brought out procession against the verdict.
The injured were rushed to Shibganj upazila health complex where doctors gave them primary treatment and referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as many of them were in severe condition, said the health complex officials.
Few hours after the treatment, a team of Shibganj police detained the three physicians at about 8:00pm.
Shibganj police officer-in-charge Ashiqur Rahman said that they detained the physicians as they did not inform the police before treating the people and let them flee by referring to hospital in another district.”
The inhumanity. The inhumanity.
I shall say no more today.
Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raaji3oon. May Allah grant Tohurul Islam Jannatul Firdaus, and award justice to his aggrieved family and friends. Allah grant this tyrant regime hidayah, or if not, destroy the tyrant, like all others before it.
