A central Shibir leader Ashraful Alam (central media secretary), along with three others, was brought to court 4 days after his arrest by security forces in Bangladesh, according to a statement by Shibir central President Abdul Zabbar and Secretary General Atiqur Rahman. According to their statement, police arrested four students including Ashraful Alam from Banglamotor in the capital on the 7th of November. But following abuse of the established law, police did not produce them before court on time. Then, family members of Ashraful Alam held a media briefing on his to demand that the law enforcement agencies produce him at court as per directives of the law. A similar demand was also made on part of Shibir.
Finally, he was produced before court on Tuesday. At the time, there were visible signs of torture on various places on his body. On the other hand, Ramna police station OC showed him arrested in an explosives case and prayed for 10 days in remand. The court granted the police 2 days for remand and questioning.
The three other students were arrested along with Ashraful Alam are Shibir actiivists Hasan Uzzaman, Mohammad Atiquzzaman Ashish and Mohammad Bayezid Khan.
Shibir leaders condemned the police for his unlawful arrest, detention, torture and late instance of producing at court. They also condemned the false case by the police against Ashraful Islam, saying that this behavior by police against a meritorious student leader was both unlawful and unacceptable.
