SAAD KILLING: BCL joins protests

Students and teachers of Bangladesh Agricultural University in Mymensingh on Saturday continued with agitation on the campus for the fifth consecutive day demanding immediate arrest and trial of the killers of the university student Saad Ibne Momtaz.
On fifth day of the agitations, the university unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, who had initially branded Saad as an infiltrator in the organisation, also demanded punishment of the killers in a separate programme.
Some 200 Chhatra League leaders and activists under the banner of Sangramee Sadharan Chhatra Janata formed a human chain.
Amid continued protests, vice-chancellor Rafiqul Haque on the day promised that all the suspects of the killing would be brought to justice by April 8.
On April 1, final year student  Saad, also the immediate past Chhatra League hall unit organising secretary, died at a local clinic hours after he was tortured by some fellows of the ruling Awami League-backed student organisation in room 250/A at Ashraful Haque Hall.
After the killing, the university unit Chhatra League organising secretary Sujoy Kumar Kundu and activists Ashraful Haque and Rokonuzzaman Rokon were arrested in this connection.
The protesting students under the banner of Andolankari Shikkharthibrinda were demanding the arrest of a dozen students allegedly involved in the attack.
Under their non-violent demonstration, over 1,500 students and teachers on Saturday evening gathered with candles at the Bijoy 71 premises.
