RU authorities suspend BCL activist

The Rajshahi University authorities expelled a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League, ruling Awami League-backed student organisation, on Thursday on charge of beating up a cultural activist on the campus. The expelled student Saddam Hossain Sajib, a 3rd-year law student, was the assistant secretary of BCL RU unit. University proctor Tariqul Hasan said RU vice-chancellor took the decision as per the authority vested in him. Kendriya Sangskritik Jote, a platform of cultural activists of the university, brought out a victory procession on the campus following the VC’s decision. The victim Basudev Ray, a psychology student, is a former president of RU Kendriya Sangskritik Jote. Students said Sajib and his associates beat Basudev severely on June 9 following a silly matter. Kendriya Sangskritik Jote submitted a complaint to the vice-chancellor and proctor in this connection.
