An alleged robber was injured in a gunfight between his cohorts and police at Matabi in Sadar upazila early Monday.
The injured was identified as Kabir Hossain.
Police said on a tip-off that a gang of robbers was trying to commit robbery in the area, a team of police launched a drive to arrest them around 3:30 am.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering a gunfight that left Kabir of the gang bullet injured.
Police arrested Kabir while his associates managed to flee the scene.
Kabir was admitted to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital under police custody.
Three police constables were also injured during the gunfight.
Police also recovered one light gun and three rounds of bullets from the spot.
Officer-in-charge of Chandraganj Police Station Humayun Kabir confirmed the incident.
Kabir was wanted in several cases including for robbery, the OC added.
Injured Kabir claimed that police arrested him from Mandari area on Sunday afternoon and then they fired on him at night.
