Prime Minister defends ICT verdict against Azam

BANGLADESH-VOTE-HASINA Bangladesh Politics Sheikh Hasina Wajed

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina defended the International Crimes Tribunal’s (ICT) verdict against Ghulam Azam saying ‘We are satisfied with it.’

Prime Minister made this comment during her closing remarks in the Parliament Tuesday noon.

Sheikh Hasina’s response comes following the same reaction made by her party spokesman Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif on Monday.

However, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and leaders of left leaning parties in ruling Grand Alliance rejected the verdict terming it as ‘unfair’ or ‘inadequate’.

The both sides- one claiming Mr Azam’s trial was politically motivated and he deserve no punishment and the other demands capital punishment for him- called countrywide strike today.

On Monday, ICT-1 found former Jamaat-e-Islami chief Ghulam Azam guilty of all charges leveled against him but gave him 90 years in prison considering his age and health condition.
