Terming the current regime repressive one, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday asked the country’s people to get ready for ousting the government through a strong movement.
‘’People have got fed-up with the continued oppression and repression by this regime. Get ready for launching a strong movement to unseat it,’’ she said.
Khaleda, also a former prime minister, made the call while addressing a street rally in front of Bogra Circuit House around 1:45pm on her way to Joypurhat.
The BNP chief alleged that the government was trying to annihilate opposition leaders and activists and common people by resorting to extrajudicial killings and forced disappearances and abductions.
She said people now want to get rid of this killer regime. “It has now become essential to overthrow this abusive government immediately to establish a pro-people one.
Khaleda also urged the party leaders and activists to get united putting behind their conflicts and differences of opinion.
The BNP high command also alleged that the ruling party men are indulging in widespread corruption and plundering public money.
Mentioning that the government is depriving the people of Bogra of new development works, she assured that they will carry out huge devolvement programmes here if BNP returns to power.
Later, the BNP chief handed over Tk one lakh to mother of Jubo Dal leader Yousuf Ali who was killed in police firing during the BNP-led 18-party’s movement before the January-5 elections.
The rally over, Khaleda started her journey for Joypurt, where she will address a public rally at RB High School Ground in the afternoon.
Earlier, Khaleda arrived in Bogra on Saturday night and stayed overnight at the local circuit house.
After her Joypurhat rally, she will return to Dhaka.
