Police say they were acting on a tip-off that some Jamaat-Shibir leaders often spent nights at the house

Police on Tuesday night tried to raid the Netrokona house of singer Nancy, her brother Shahria Aman, Sunny claimed.

“The police got inside our premises and mistreated me,” Sunny who lives at the house told the Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday.

Netrokona Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge Mofiz Uddin said they were acting on a tip-off that some Jamaat-Shibir leaders often spent nights at the house, and so they wanted to check up on the lead.

He, however, claimed that they had been given false information.

“It was not a raid. We went to her house, and her brother refused to let us in, so we returned,” he told the Dhaka Tribune.

He complained that Sunny was “unsupportive.” Sunny is a SSC student who swings between his Netrokona and Mymensingh home.

The incident took place only a few days after Nancy posted a Facebook status expressing support for opposition leader Khaleda Zia’s polls-time formula, media sources reported.

Protesting against the police raid, Nancy said she would hold a press conference this Thursday at the National Press Club at 11am.
