Police conducted a suprise raid on the Jatrabari branch of Tamirul Millat Madrasa, a premier boys boarding school and religious seminary in Bangladesh, in Dhaka on Wednesday night as students settled in for the night.
The police raided the madrasa on Wednesday January 28 2015 at 11 pm. 30 students and teachers were detained during the raid that continued from 11:30 pm to 2 am. The detainees were taken to Jatrabari police station. Mustak Ahmed, Deputy Commissionar of Police in charge of Wari zone of the capital said, “The raid started at 11:30 pm and ended at 2 am. 30 people have been detained during the raid.”
He alleged that information about planning of sabotage and violence in the madrasa on the occasion of upcoming strikes was reported and on the basis of that information Police launched the raid. Some leaflets, banners and organisational documents of opposition political parties Jamaat E Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir have been seized from the spot. After enquiry and investigation on Thursday, legal steps will be taken against the detainees added Mustak Ahmed.
The names and ages of the detained boys and their teachers could not be immediately determined.
