Police drive in 3 districts lead to arrest of 38 village women & 4 children at religious study programs on Ramadan ‪in ‎Bangladesh‬

Jamaat women arrested in Ramdan 2015

Sunday 28 June 2015: Jhenedia, Khulna, Bogura: Police arrested 24 female members and 4 children at a study seminar of Jamaat-e-Islami, where a religious instruction seminar on Ramadan was taking place. Police allege that the women were arrested along with three bombs and bomb making materials, from a house at Gobra village in Khulna.

Koira Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Harendra Nath Sarkar stated that police were apparently tipped off about the meeting of around 150 women leaders and activities of Jamaat. Although it was a large gathering police assert that the meeting was ‘secret’ and conducted a drive in the area and detained 28 people.

Some Jamaat women fled the spot and detained four females were released as they were underage. A case would be filed in this connection, the OC added.

Yesterday, on Saturday 27 June, Police Officer Biplob Kumar Nath stated that, 9 village women were also arrested in Jhenedia while they were conducting religious functions about Ramadan. OC Biplob Kumar Nath stated.

A further 5 women were arrested today from Bogura, also whilst carrying out religious programmes on Ramadan and fasting.
