A local activist of Jamaat-e-Islami suffered bullet wounds in police firing in Sushilgati area of Debhata upazila early Thursday.
The injured was identified as Faruque Hossain, 48, of Dakkhin Parulia village in the upazila.
Officer-in-charge of Debhata Police Station Quazi Jalauddin said they, along with Faruk, an accused in a number of cases, including the one for Awami League leader Abu Raihan murder, were on a drive in the early hours.
At one stage, the OC said, miscreants hurled 7-8 crude bombs at the law enforcers when they had been in Sushingati area around 4 am.
In retaliation, police fired six gunshots, leaving Faruque wounded.
He was admitted to Sadar Hospital.
