“Common people keep their distance from police as they fear the law enforcers, and this is an obstacle on the way to restore peace”, said Inspector General of Police, AKM Shahidul Hoque, while addressing a meeting of community policemen at Sylhet Police Lines at Rekabibazar in the city of Sylhet on Satuday afternoon.
Coming down strongly on existing corruption practices in police stations, he said,” There will either be dalals (intermediaries or middlemen) in the police stations, or there will be police. Keeping the stations dalal– free is also a work of the community police. If any OC (Officer in charge) does not help in this regard, he will be transferred”
He said that community policing would reduce the gap between the law enforcers and people.
According to BSS report he underscored the need for building mass awareness among the mass people to identify the root-cause of all criminal activities instigating terrorism and unrest in the society.
The police chief asked police personnel to know about their duties and responsibilities, and not to compromise with any sort of crimes.
He also directed police to perform their respective duties staying above all the controversy.
Sylhet District Police Super (SP) Noor-e-Alam Mina presided over the conference.
