Chittagong police have banned all meetings and rallies as Awami League and BNP announced confronting political programmes at the city’s Laldighi ground on Oct 25.
CMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam told bdnews24.com the ban will remain in force until further notice.
Already, the police have imposed an indefinite ban all meetings, rallies and processions in Dhaka since Oct 20.
Border Guard Bangladesh personnel will also be deployed in the city from Thursday.
CMP Additional Commissioner (crime and operation) Banaj Kumar Majumder told bdnews24.com that the two major parties had sought permission to hold rallies on Oct 25 in separate letters.
“To maintain law and order we requested the authorities to deploy six platoons of BGB to help police from 8am on Thursday.”
Besides, 200 ABPn and 200 industrial police personnel would also be on duty, said the AC.
Chittagong City Awami League President ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury on Sunday called for a rally on Oct 25 at the Laldighi ground.
Several hours later, Chittagong City BNP leader Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in a rally claimed that they had got permission to hold a rally on the day in the same venue.
