Nearly 500,000 Homeless Following Bangladesh Flooding

The yearly monsoon is again causing problems for many people across Bangladesh as heavy rainfall has sparked flooding which washed out several villages across the nation.

While rainfall in Dhaka is only averaging about an inch above normal during the first 25 days of August, the tremendous monsoonal rains have caused many rivers to breach their banks, leaving nearly 500,000 people homeless.

The worst of the flooding has occurred across northern Bangladesh according to the Wall Street Journal. Although there have been no reported casualties, people have been left homeless in 14 of Bangladesh’s 64 districts from flooding.

Locally heavy rainfall will continue across Bangladesh, especially north areas this week. The monsoon typically withdraws from Bangladesh during the first half of October.
