BNP today lambasted the chiefs of different law enforcement agencies for “their partisan role” during the 20-party alliance’s anti-government movement.
“It seems weapons of law enforcement agencies have been bought by the ruling party’s fund and that’s why these are being used against the opponents without any accountability,” BNP Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed said in a press statement this afternoon.
He condemned Sunday’s remarks of the director general of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and said extra-judicial killing was ongoing across the country to erase the political thoughts and ideology of BNP.
Rab chief Benazir Ahmed at a function in Khulna said that the allegations of extra-judicial killings against the elite forces were mere propaganda. His comment came barely 11 hours after two alleged criminals were killed in a “shootout” in the capital’s Banashree area.
He said arms were given to the law enforcers to curb crimes not for “playing ha-du-du or danguli [traditional sports]”, reports our Khulna correspondent. “What is judicial killing?” Benazir questioned whilst responding to a reporter’s query at a press briefing in Rab-6 Headquarters there.
Mentioning that barbaric incidents like petrol bomb attacks are taking place across the country, Rizvi Ahmed said the blame for the atrocities is being shifted to the BNP men deliberately.
“Throwing petrol bombs, gun powder, setting fire to vehicles and killing people with logi-baitha are the political tradition of the ruling Awami League,” he alleged.
The BNP leader once again announced that the alliance is determined to continue with the ongoing movement in a “peaceful manner” until their demand is met.
