There is no possibility of executing the verdict against death-row war criminal M Kamaruzzaman on Monday, said senior jail super of Dhaka Central Jail Forman Ali. ‘Condemned convict Kamaruzzaman won’t be hanged today (Monday) as we’re yet to receive the copy of the verdict rejecting his review petition. So, it’s not possible to execute him today,’ he told reporters in front of the jail in the evening, reports United News of Bangladesh. Replying to a query, Forman Ali said they do not know when the copy of the Supreme Court verdict upholding the death sentence of the war criminal will reach the prison. ‘We’ll decide about the execution of the verdict once it reaches us,’ he added. Meanwhile, family members of the condemned war criminal met him at the Dhaka Central Jail in the evening. Talking to reporters after coming out of the jail, Kamaruzzaman’s elder son Hasan Iqbal Wami termed the verdict rejecting the review petition of his father imaginary. ‘It seems like a fairytale.’ Replying to a query, he said the decision about seeking the presidential clemency will be taken after consultation with lawyers once they receive the copy of the Supreme Court verdict. Hasan Iqbal also sought doa from the country’s people for his father. Earlier in the day, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court rejected Kamaruzzaman’s review petition against its previous verdict in favour of his death penalty that was earlier awarded by the International Crimes Tribunal-2.
