Junaid Babunagari to have a leg amputated

Babunagari in BIRDEM Hospital Intensive Care Unit

Secretary General of Hefazat-e-Islam, Mawlana Junaid Babunagari, will have one of his legs amputated. Doctors agreed to this when there was no other option after one of his legs started to decay. This information was confirmed by Dr Mainul Hossain yesterday, who is part of the surgery department at Birdem hospital. 
Meanwhile he is being kept at the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) after his health condition deteriorated further. Due to a sudden heart condition he was moved to the CCU department last Monday. 
Prior to his move to the CCU he was taken in to recovery cabin from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Medical Officer Johurul Alam Khan has stated that the current situation of Junaid Babunagari remains unchanged and is worsening by the day. Last Tuesday a medical team of 7 specialists were formed to discuss the treatment for Junaid Babunagari in Hospital. 
His oldest son-in-law Mufti Kutubuddin said that his father in laws heath condition remains unchanged; when they were looking to send him abroad for better treatment, Health specialists told them that there are adequate treatment facilities available within Bangladesh.
Yesterday doctors on call at Birdem Hospital’s CCU department informed that the physical condition of Junaid Babunagri has slightly improved. After analysis of several tests and examinations, doctors were considering to transfer him to a recovery cabin. However no decisions will be made outside the medical board regarding his treatment.
Police arrested Mawlana Junaid Babunagari on May 6. He was subsequently taken on 22-day remand, during which he is said to have been tortured. He emerged from remand in court looking visibly ill and was admitted to hospital. Hefazat leaders allege that Mawlana Babunagari was tortured physically and mentally during the remand and forced into risk of death in a planned way.
