Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 30th June, 2015 urging the Food Minister Advocate Kamrul Islam to resign taking the liabilities of importing insect mixed substandard wheat from Brazil.
“After importing insect mixed substandard wheat from Brazil, Food Minister Advocate Kamrul Islam is trying to prove it better. The countrymen have become vocal against the personnel who were involved with the process of importing substandard wheat from Brazil. I am thanking the police force for not receiving this low standard wheat imported from Brazil.
By importing substandard wheat for the poor and impoverished people, the government is pushing these communities towards death. A police member living in Razarbag barrack claimed that, they found insects and brick pieces in the wheat what they are receiving in the ration. Subsequently, consuming the wheat, the police members became sick. The police headquarters also sent a letter to the Home Ministry stating that, eating the substandard food provided by the food ministry, the policemen became mentally and physically weak.
This substandard wheat is being distributed nationwide for Food for Work, TR and relief purposes. If this low standard wheat is given to the common people through different government programs, it would entrap the general masses into various lethal diseases. In this backdrop, I am urging the Food Minister Advocate Kamrul Islam to resign taking the liabilities of importing insect mixed substandard wheat from Brazil.
Besides, I am urging the authorities concerned to take legal and punitive measures against those miscreants who were also involved along with the food minister with the substandard wheat import scam.”
