Jamaat Criticises Statement of International Crisis Group, Reaffirms Commitment to Peaceful Democracy

Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on11th February, 2015 protesting and condemning the unjust, biased and illogical statement of the International Crisis Group.

The view and remarks which is stated in the statement of the International Crisis Group, ICG published on last 9th February is unjustified, biased, illogical, unexpected and truly regrettable. We are just shocked at the unfair statement of ICG. International Crisis Group has blamed BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami unilaterally for the ongoing political deadlock of Bangladesh which is ill motivated and unjust observation. We are vehemently protesting and condemning the statement of International Crisis Group.  They have recommended BNP to leave Jamaat-e-Islami and to avert violence which is nothing but merely a maneuvering political statement. Their remarks about Jamaat-e-Islami is totally false and untruth. The glorious role of Jamaat-e-Islami in all the previous democratic movement of the country and subsequently to institutionalize democracy is deep rooted into the heart of the countrymen and always remembered. The popularity and acceptance of Jamaat-e-Islami is being increased significantly in recent times. The increasing popularity of Jamaat-e-Islami has created severe envy and hostility among some quarters and consequently propaganda and ill campaign is being conducted against the party.

To all those quarters, we simply want to say that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami believes in democratic and systematic trend of non-violent politics. Jamaat sincerely hates violence and terrorism. Since the inception of the journey, Jamaat-e-Islami has been carrying effort to establish democracy in the country.

They have exposed their lack of knowledge and ignorance by placing some false and baseless view about Jamaat-e-Islami. It is not justified and decent for them to recommend excluding or including any party from a political alliance.

Finally, I am urging the International Crisis Group not to deliver any untruth, confusing and illogical statement about Jamaate Islami.
