At least 21 opposition activists were arrested by the police in Bagerhat, Lalmanirhat, Sitakunda, and Lohagara.
Fakirhat sub-district secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Mofazzel Haidar was picked up by the Detective Branch of the police on Saturday evening at 7:30 pm. He was arrested from the Jatrapur Bazaar area in the Sadar sub-district. He is a suspect in a number of cases including vandalism, police sources confirmed.
5 BNP and Jamaat activists were arrested in Lalmanirhat. Police arrested these activists from different places in the district. The arrested activists are: from Bowra area: BNP activist Abed Ali, from Jaldhaka in Nilphamari: Jamaat activist Liton, from Buribara and Lalmanirhat sadar: BNP activists: Abdul Khalek, Liton Mia, and Asaduzzaman Bhuttu. There are charges of murder, vandalism, assault, and riot against them, police said.
Police arrested 5 Shibir activists from Sitakunda in Chittagong in Chatra League activist Mohammad Azam murder. Police arrested these activists during the overnight operation on Sunday (after Saturday midnight). Two suspects denied involvement, police said. “But we will keep interrogating them”, the OC of Sitakunda police station Mohammad Iftekhar told banglanews24.
Police arrested 10 Jamaat-Shibir activists in Lohagara were apprehended by the police during operation carried out after Saturday midnight and Sunday morning. These activists were picked up from Charamba Union and Chakbazar area. The detained activists are suspects in vandalism cases, said police.
