Gas reserve in Bangladesh to last till 2031: state minister
DHAKA, June 28 (Xinhua) — Bangladesh can run 16 more years with its current gas reserve of 14.16 trillion cubic feet (TCF), State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid told the parliament on Sunday.
Replying to a lawmaker’s queries, the state minister said the initial probable production of gas was 27.12 TCF out of which some 12.96 TCF has been extracted till May, 2015.
The state minister said it would be possible to use the gas reserve for about 16 years till 2031, if no new gas fields were discovered.
He also said that it was not possible to supply gas according to the demand.
“The demand will increase in future. So it will not be possible to keep the extraction rate unchanged, if the reserve drops,” Hamid said in a scripted reply.
The production capacity of the existing fields will reduce with the reduction of gas pressure in the passage of time, he added.
