Former president of Bangladesh Islami Chatra Shibir, the largest student organisation in Bangladesh, Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud, is seriously ill in police remand. On Saturday, police arrested him along with 19 other activists. The next day, they were presented at court and granted 4 days remand. While in remand, police from Mohammadpur police station and a team of DB have been interrogating.
Organization leaders along with family members of arrested activists are accusing police of torturing Dr. Masud for the last two days in the name of interrogation. The former president, Dr. Masud, is being extremely tortured such that he became unconscious at one point.
Today in the afternoon, he was admitted to Rajarbag police Hospital in unconscious state very secretly. The whole time, under the auspices of the current government, an officer of Detective Branch team has been interrogating while torturing severely.
This brilliant student leader attained his higher education degree from University of Rajshahi, and became the president of Chatra Shibir. He is currently a member of Jamaat-i-Islami central committee.
Due to his leadership and seniority the police were looking for him. Police suspects Dr. Masud plays a crucial role in implementing various Jamaat-i-Islami projects.
Not too long ago, police arrested the president of Islami Chatra Shibir, Delwar Hossain, and tortured him ruthlessly for over a month. He is now crippled and remains in jail.
When contacted no one in the Rajarbag police Hospital wanted to comment on Dr Masud’s case.
