EU jean lambert mep letter

European Union (EU) officials have expressed concern over the upholding of the death penalty of war crimes accused Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid following his appeal at the International War Crimes Tribunal.

Reiterating its stance against the use of the death penalty in all circumstances, concerns were raised that the due process of law may not have been followed, and that it could be contrary to a number of international human rights and judicial standards.

The concerns were raised by Jean Lambert MEP, Chair of the European Parliament Delegation for relations with the countries of South Asia, in a letter to Ismat Jahan, the ambassador of Bangladesh to the EU on the 23rd of October.

In his letter, the EU official urged judicial authorities in Bangladesh to review the current death sentence of Ali Ahsan Mujahid.
