Erdogan thanks Bangladesh for greetings

Newly elected Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has thanked Bangladesh government for greeting him on the assumption of his new office.

Erdogan conveyed his gratitude through State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam who represented Bangladesh in the swearing in ceremony held on Thursday at the Presidential Palace in Ankara, said a Foreign Ministry media release.

The new Turkish President enquired about the current state of trade and economy in Bangladesh and the State Minister apprised him that the economy of Bangladesh has been growing at a consistent rate of over 6 percent and its exports crossed US$ 32 billion-mark.

Shahriar also informed the Turkish President that bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Turkey has been increasing.

Erdoğan took over the charge of the Presidency of Turkey from outgoing President Abdullah Gul.

The ceremony was witnessed by dignitaries from more than 90 countries including Head of State, Head of Government, Speaker of Parliament, Ministers and Head of the International Organizations.

The erstwhile Prime Minister of Turkey, Erdoğan was elected President of Turkey in the first-ever popular presidential vote held on August 10.
