Although it was for Cultural affairs minister as per protocol, Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni is flying to New York to join a programme of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
According to the schedules of UNESCO’s programme and Dipu’s flight, she could attend the programme for at best last 15-minute.
Questions have been raised about what Dipu Moni could get within the 15-minute. The visit would be merely for a 15-minute photo session.
A source in Bangladesh Permanent Mission to UN said, UNESCO’s high profile programme will be held from 10:00am to 1:00pm (local time) Thursday. Dipu Moni’s flight will reach John F Kennedy Airport at 11:25am and 35 more minutes will be needed for check-out. She would have less than one hour to reach UN Headquarters.
Representative Dr AK Abdul Momen told banglanews, “We will try our best to reach Foreign Minister in the programme. We could do that if flight schedule doesn’t collapse.”
A reliable source in the mission said it was appropriate for Bangladesh’s Cultural Affairs Minister to attend the programme like other countries. No foreign minister, but Dipu Moni from Bangladesh is going to join the programme.
In the meantime, opposition lawmakers criticized Dipu Moni in the parliament for her recent excessive foreign trips.
