A passenger carriage was derailed near Ghorashal station in Narsingdi that halted the railway communication between Dhaka, Sylhet and Chittagong on Thursday night.
A Sylhet bound carriage of Kalni Express train was derailed near Ghorashal station in Narsingdi at about 7:30pm, said Dhaka divisional railway manager Quamrul Ahsan.
He said that there was no trace of uprooted rail tracks or other sabotages.
The incident might be caused by some technical fault of the locomotive that can be determined after further investigation, said the officials.
He said that the rescue train was on the way to the spot, he said.
Many passengers at different stations and trains had to wait following the incident.
